Hirt, Wit- tenberg class of 1911, for whom the H.O. Hirt Endowed Chair in history at Wittenberg is named.
Barbara Rossing, professor of New Testament at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, received the 2011 Yale Divinity School Alumni Award for Distinction in Theologi- cal Education. She was selected from a field of international candidates. Calling the award a fitting tribute, Philip L. Hougen, acting LSTC presi- dent, said Rossing’s “insights on the apocalypse, climate change and ecol- ogy have literally been heard around the world through her work with the Lutheran World Federation.” The author of The Rapture Exposed: The Message of Hope in the Book of Rev- elation (Westview Press, 2004), Ross- ing is a former chair of the LWF’s the- ology and studies committee.
Javier Alanis, executive director of the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest, Austin, Texas, pre- sented an Oct. 21 talk about ministry with Latino neighbors and led wor- ship Oct. 23 at Living Word Lutheran Church, Katy, Texas.
