During the 2011-12 academic year, the chaplain’s office and music depart- ment at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Pa., are offering “Wor- ship in a New Key” opportunities for campus and community members to experience diverse worship styles. This includes a Taizé eucharist wor- ship, jazz vespers and a contempo- rary/alternative service. Taizé, for example, said university chaplain and associate professor of religion Mark W. Radecke, is “a hauntingly beau- tiful way to worship, providing as it does a quiet, peaceful contrast to the too-rushed pace and too-loud volume of everyday life.”

Douglas Hazlett, associate profes- sor of education at Thiel College, Greenville, Pa., advises and supports principals at local schools through the Pennsylvania Principals Men- toring Network. Each year, Hazlett meets monthly with new principals and contacts them weekly via email, phone or other online technology. In the last several years, he has mentored 11 principals. At Thiel since 2006, Hazlett has been part of the educa- tional system from all sides—as a col- lege professor, assistant high school principal, middle school principal, curriculum director, assistant super- intendent, school board member and school parent.

First-generation college students will soon get a boost from Texas Lutheran University, Seguin, thanks to a $1 million gift from the Greehey Family Foundation for scholarships and pro- gramming. About 30 percent of TLU students are the first in their families to go to college.
