Inside a South Courts room, Colchester Campus

Pranav Sawhney, third-year BSc Economics student, New Delhi, India

Pranav lives in William Morris Tower and is a residents’ assistant.

“As a resident of South Courts in my first year, I realised that Essex is like a tight-knit family that makes for an excellent learning environment. However, there are always times when you need help with various issues that are part of day-to-day student life. This is when I understood the importance of having residents’ assistants and I have to say that it is one of the most rewarding services on campus. There is no joy bigger than being able to give back to our wonderful student community.”

Caroline Wilcock, first-year BA English Language student, Solihull, West Midlands

Caroline lives in South Courts, which is located in the centre of the Colchester Campus.

“My room in South Courts is excellent. It is very spacious and bright with a lovely view. I also have a large en suite which is fresh and clean. All of my flatmates come from different backgrounds and yet we all get on extremely well. I have definitely found some friends for life and we all had a great time getting to know each other during Freshers’ Week. It is extremely convenient living in South Courts; you are never more than a few minutes’ away from your lectures or the centre of campus.”

Ciara Cooper, first-year BSc Sports and Exercise Science student, Luton, Bedfordshire

Ciara lives in Tawney Tower in the centre of the Colchester Campus.

“Living in the Towers made it so easy to make friends at the start of term. I share with 13 other students and it is such a sociable environment that I settled in really quickly. My room is the perfect size to fit everything in it that I need, and it has all the furniture I could want. I enjoy studying as well as socialising in my room and it is great that we get internet access included in the very reasonable price.”

Wida Obaydi, second-year BSc Marketing and Finance student, Harrow, London

Wida lives in the new Southend accommodation, University Square.

“The best thing about living in University accommodation is meeting new people and forming strong friendships with your flatmates. My bedroom is spacious and all rooms are en suite which is an added bonus. The communal area is a great addition as it provides a good place to socialise with other residents and watch TV. University Square is also a very safe and secure environment, with 24-hour security. It is at a great location, right in the heart of town, and most importantly it is only a five minute walk to the campus and the Students’ Union.”
