BA French/German/Italian/ Portuguese/Spanish Studies and Modern Languages allow you to study two or three languages, with two modules in the named language taken each year, which must be studied to mastery level. Additionally, the year abroad must be spent in a country where the named language is spoken.

BA Modern Languages and Teaching English as a Foreign Language offers those who are interested in a career in TEFL (eg as a way of earning money while living abroad), the chance to combine this with the study of one or two modern languages.
BA Spanish Studies with Latin American Studies offers the opportunity to specialise in the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world in
combination with options in Latin American studies. Two Spanish modules (one language and one thematic) and two Latin American modules must be taken in each year of the course at Essex. You can choose the areas you want to concentrate in and the skills you wish to develop in the language and in the Latin American area. You will also be encouraged to take a skills module as a free option in your second year.
BA Modern Languages with Latin American Studies offers the opportunity of studying between two and three languages. Either Spanish or Portuguese has to be studied as a major language and you can acquire a second language as minor and a third language can be taken as a second minor option. The course is unique in offering the possibility of studying a second language in parallel with Spanish/Portuguese and specialising in Latin American studies at the same time.
BA Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian Studies* will offer you the opportunity to develop your language skills in Spanish and Portuguese to a high proficiency level as all modules are delivered in the target languages. You will also be able to acquire graduate level professional skills (translation, interpreting and subtitling)

BA Drama and Modern Languages will enable you to become proficient in one or more modern languages, and to study a wide range of dramatic texts, ranging from Ancient Greek times to the present day.
