RUSSIAN + CIS NEWS Authorities must maximise foreign investment

The task of the Russian authorities today is to stimulate investment activity to the maximum and to make it an important agent of the renovation of the national economy, announced Prime Minister Vladimir Putin at the meeting of the government presidium.

he large role here is played by direct foreign investments, underlined the prime minister. “Russia must be really attractive for such long-term strategic inputs,” Putin was quoted by the government press centre, “and we are to create a necessary legal and organisational foundation for this, including on a state-by-state basis in the format of bilateral relations.” The prime minister asked the Federal Anti-Monopoly Office to accelerate the introduction of a second block of amendments designed to simplify procedures for the work of foreign investors at strategic industry sectors.

MTE Group restores production at Donpressmash

The MTE Group of Companies has completed all the procedures involved in the acquisition of Donpressmash assets. It has begun restoring production and started to formulate an investment development programme for business. The total investment involved in consolidating the assets is reported to exceed 170 million rubles (4.3 million euros).

he production area of Donpressmash housed two enterprises: Azov Forge and Foundry Plant and ZAO Plant for the production of KPO. By the end of 2009 both plants went into bankruptcy and production was stopped. Denis Volkov, the general director of MTE Group of Companies told Prime-Tass: “MTE priorities are realisation of large investment projects in machine-building and energy industry. In 2009 the company started realisation of one of its strategic

objectives – the foundation and development of its own production operations. We have designed a development plan and collected a team of specialists. In 2010 we started construction of a plant for the production of heavy-duty fasteners in Kolomna at the OOO MTE – Kolomenskiy Plant. Production will start in summer”.

Rolling mill produces millionth tonne

The millionth tonne of hot-rolled mill products was produced in a new rolling- mill shop of OAO Nizhneserginskiy Hardware and Metallurgic Plant (NSMMZ) in Berezovskiy on 17th

January.

shop is a heavy-duty bifilar rolling mill, model 150, from Italian group Danieli, one of the world’s top three suppliers of plant and equipment to the world steel industry. The new mill is designed to produce wire coils with a diameter from 6mm to 16mm and rod with a diameter from 5.5mm to 22mm, which goes on for further processing elsewhere in NSMMZ’s hardware production facility. The rolling complex consists of finishing wire block with maximum speed up to 110 metres per second, an SMS Meer furnace and a Sund Birsta conveyor unit for transportation and packaging of coils according to European standards. The construction of the mill was completed in 2009.

Following a commissioning regime the mill received permission to go into full production at the end of 2010.

Who leads the Russian hardware market?

According to the Metal Supply and Distribution Magazine (Metallosnabzheniye i Sbyt) the top five hardware producers in the Russian Federation are Mechel, Severstal-Metiz, MMK-Metiz, NLMK and Evrazholding.

include Russian automotive producers, such as KamAZ (Kama Automobile Plant) and Sollers Automotive Group, which currently owns 67.77% of the OJSC Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (UAZ). Severstal recently signed an agreement with Sollers for the supply of a range of hot and cold rolled steel and electric welded pipes. Severstal operates a consignment warehouse on Sollers behalf. The Orel plant is also producing test batches of automotive fasteners for other Russian producers including auto-PROmA.
