TOOLS perfectControl receives award

Stahlwille, based in Wuppertal, Germany, recently received the iF Product Design Award 2011 for its

electronic torque calibration unit – perfectControl. Stahlwille’s factory based design team created an electronic torque calibration unit, which even at first glance bears no resemblance to other competitor’s products.

S

tahwille underlines that the appearance is just where the differences begin. With perfectControl torque wrenches can be calibrated faster, with greater ease and with enhanced precision. Equipped with an advanced electronic drive and control system, the time and effort required to complete calibration tasks is significantly reduced. Thanks to the precise bearing alignment of the spindle combined with a precision stepped motor drive and control

system, user induced error can be virtually eliminated. The patented fast and easy hot-swapping of transducers further enables the calibration of the widest possible variety of torque wrenches. The dramatic reductions in time and effort made possible by this unit become apparent as calibration volumes increase. This year the iF product design jury received 2,756 applications from 1,121 participants in 43 different countries. The international

jury then selected from 16 categories the winners of the iF Product Design Award 2011. A primary focus was the brand image of each applicant and submission. The judges noted that the consistent branding of many companies results in a strong and distinctive product launch. An important point in times of recovery as design awareness moves back into the spotlight.

Norbar launches new torque app

Norbar Torque Tools has launched a handy torque conversion calculator as a free download on Android and iPhone systems. Similar to the calculator featured on Norbar’s website, the new app offers instant conversion across a full range of SI, Metric and Imperial Units.

B

eing able to access this information from mobile devices will be invaluable for professionals in engineering and all other sectors requiring accurate torque measurement. Students and apprentices in

engineering and technology will also find this app a useful tool to assist in their calculations. Norbar, based in Banbury, UK, has branches in the USA,

Australia, New Zealand, China and Singapore. The company underlines that its manufacturing experience and expert knowledge have made this new torque measurement app a truly international tool – as it is easy to access and simple to use by any nationality and useful to engineers, scientists and technologists alike.

Philip Brodey, director of Norbar, maintains that mobility

and flexibility of use is vital in many working environments and projects in the field. “The three different systems of measurement are all widely used and this app will make instant calculations between them from the largest to the smallest scales of measurement. The same applies to conversions within a system. This new app is a time saving aid and an ideal way to check your calculations.” The widely used SI measurement of torque is the Newton

Metre (N.m), which is the level of torque resulting from the force of one Newton at a distance of one metre. This approximates to just over 0.1 Kgf.m (kilogram force metre) and 0.7 lbf.ft (pound force foot or foot pound).

Wright Tool introduces new strike-free wrenches

Wright Tool has introduced new strike-free wrenches that are used on heavy-duty applications where striking-face box wrenches cannot be used and where cheater bars should not be used.

point wrench openings ranging in 17 sizes from 1 inch to 2 inches in diameter. Wright Tool’s strike-free wrenches are professional-grade and are manufactured for high strength, durability and reliability. “The addition of these strike-free wrenches to our extensive line of wrenches allows Wright Tool to be a single

source of tools needed for a variety of industries including the petrochemical, utility, heavy-duty construction and industrial maintenance industries,” said Ty Smith, director of business development at Wright Tool. Wright Tool manufactures a complete line of more than 4,000 professional-grade hand tools for the industrial, contractor, and MRO markets. All Wright manufactured products carry lifetime guarantees against defects in workmanship.

right Tool strike-free wrenches are specifically designed for use where false blows are not permitted. The wrenches also loosen and tighten large fasteners in confined areas where there is not enough room to swing a striking tool. The US made line of strike-free wrenches is available in two and three foot handle sizes, with 12
