and a number of these items are consumables, meaning we do not need to replace or repair them - things like oil filters. However, one of the hardest things for a company to do is to predict what is going to be needed and when - mixed with what the end-user is going to do with the equipment to ascertain the frequency and stock levels for each of the items. Another key point to address is technology; as new technology comes online, so do its parts and all this needs to be sourced, stocked and integrated into the equipment. But the question we constantly need answering is, whether

that company will hold sufficient stock to keep us, as in Challenger 2, going 24hrs a day, 365 days a year. The Challenger 2 is not designed as a vehicle one would

move daily from car park to car park; it isn’t built for that, it is a fighting vehicle that is required to remain reliable in the most extreme temperatures and a variety of terrains. It is a rugged vehicle demanding much more than any commercial vehicle and as a consequence, the parts within the vehicle have to be robust enough to withstand that brutal environment, and still meet with industry standards,
