Editor’s Word...
For every event we hear about in the media from the battle zones of Afghanistan and Iraq, whether success or setback, there are hundreds – thousands – of logistical decisions that have brought that event to bear. While not always recognised as the most glamorous side of military operations, logistics is arguably the most important. The processes involved in the maintenance and movement of armed forces include everything from the strategic transport of personnel and equipment, to the design and implementation of housing, storage, and medical facilities; from the ready and timely supply of the most advanced weapon systems and armoured vehicles, to assuring the basic requirements of every single war fighter are anticipated and provided for to ensure he has the right equipment at the right time and place to complete his mission successfully.
G4 DEFENCE, the newest addition to the Jon Philips family, will take a close look at the quiet, unassuming world of military logistics. This is an exciting time to be delving into this sector, with a number of large-scale and deeply consequential programmes underway by armed forces and contractors that will change the way modern forces are able to address the logistical requirements of modern war fighters. I welcome you to this, the first edition of G4 DEFENCE, and am confident that our coverage will bring our readers fresh and informed editorial on this crucial aspect of military operations.
