Isaac’s Tea Trail
Isaac’s Tea Trail is a 36-mile circular trail that starts in
Allendale at Isaac's Well and goes over to Nenthead
and Alston and returns by Ninebanks (YHA

Ninebanks). The route is way marked and has
distinctive Isaac signs.
The walk follows the footsteps of the legendary tea
seller and fund raiser Isaac Holden. On the trail you
will discover glorious dales and cross wild moors with
stunning views across the North Pennines.
The walk is special because it gently carries you back
in time to the 19th century – to the demise of the lead
mining industry and the life of a local tea seller. When
the lead mining industry collapsed Isaac was forced to
find a new way of making a living and so he became a
travelling tea seller.
