Or the wide open skies and breathtaking
vistas. Maybe it’s the rare wildlife or the
iconic attractions. Perhaps it’s the peace and
tranquillity. Or the independent, creative
spirit that flows through our people.
Whatever it is, come to Northumberland and you’ll find a
surprisingly high number of talented artists living and working
here, some with acclaimed international reputations.
Many of the artists are represented through Network, an
organisation with more than 170 members across the county.
It is best known for its popular annual open studio event, the Art
Tour. Over four weekends in June Northumberland artists throw
open their doors and welcome visitors into their workshops.
The Art Tour gives visitors a chance to sneak a look into the lives,
and often the homes, of amazing artists, perhaps to buy a unique
piece of artwork direct from the maker. Many artists live and
work in quirky and unusual locations and invite visitors to wander
round their houses or gardens, which can often be as interesting
as their artwork.
If our creativity inspires you, why not have a go yourself? Many
artists give workshops and courses, offering even complete
beginners the basic skills of painting, printmaking, glassmaking,
textile art, photography, ceramics and more.
A number of the workshops and courses are offered in
conjunction with accommodation providers, so when you book son
