n the past, options were somewhat limited when it came to fl ash-bang training. Operational flash-bangs are expensive and impose restrictions on the training environment. This led to many agencies employing expended fl ash-bangs that were painted or taped blue for recognition during training. Responding to the needs of tactical teams, manufacturers have developed training devices to realistically simulate the characteristics of operational fl ash- bangs. T ese fl ash-bang training de- vices fall into three categories—inert, pyrotechnic and non-pyrotechnic. T ey replicate to varying degrees the handling characteristics of operational fl ash-bangs without the cost, blast and regulatory requirements. T ese allow offi cers to perform de- ployment protocols in relative safety and without disruption of the sur- rounding area. T ey enable offi cers to conduct deployment drills and tacti- cal rehearsals more often and in more places than would be the case if opera- tional fl ash-bangs were employed.

Avail- able in both reloadable and single-use models, the Low Roll Distraction Device features a distinctive hex-head body that provides better grip ergonomics and reduces rolling when deployed. A 12-port confi guration on the top of the device body results in a more even distribu- tion of gases from the opposing ends of the canister than with most competing designs, reducing the potential for movement when deployed.
Training Body & Fuzes T e Low Roll Distraction Device Training Body is a re- loadable device that is designed for unlimited use. T e body is painted blue for identifi cation as a dedicated training device. T e training reload charges employ a special high- output M201A1 Type 4 fuze that produces 120 dB at 5 feet (1.5m). T e fuzes do not have a secondary pyrotechnic charge and thus produce a greatly reduced fl ash. T e Low
