LIR makes a full range of thermal imag- ing and night vision products for every kind of patrol or tactical operation. Ther- mal cameras detect heat, which means they do not need visible light to see. What were military devices have been mainstream law enforcement for decades. T ermal imaging cameras are often con- fused with night vision devices. T ese are very diff erent technologies. T ermal cam- eras make pictures from tiny diff erences in heat—heat from the surrounding area and heat from objects like houses, vehicles, animals and people. Night vision makes pictures from tiny amounts of visible light. Instead of using light or amplifying am- bient light to detect objects, thermal imag- ers see the heat from any object that emits heat, animate or inanimate. T is allows law enforcement to search in total darkness and avoid the use of fl ashlights that can reveal their location. T e LS-series of thermal cameras have multiple imaging modes that can detect the body heat of a person or ani- mal and the exhaust or engine heat from a vehicle through light, fog, rain and smoke. FLIR is the largest designer and producer of thermal imaging cameras, components and sensors in the world. Since 1978, FLIR has built over 100,000 thermal sensors, ra-

dars and CBRNE sensors, shipping them to more than 75 nations. Police offi cers around the world use the FLIR LS to locate criminals, sense indoor grow operations, locate missing persons, track an ongoing pursuit, and conduct other special investigations. A thermal camera can see what cannot be seen by fl ashlights and spotlights.

NextGen LS-series T e FLIR LS-series thermal imaging cam- era has undergone a major upgrade. T e NextGen LS-X and LS-XR handheld ther- mal cameras now include a high-resolution color display with enhanced digital zoom

and a video output feed. Importantly, the FLIR LS-X and LS-XR also have the In- stAlert™ feature, which turns hot objects bright red on the screen. T is makes for a greater visual contrast. T e big news about the LS-series is the high-resolution color display with en- hanced digital zoom and InstAlert. T e LS-X and LS-XR now have extended ranges and video output for recording and exter- nal displays. Both the LS-X and LS-XR are designed for simple, single-hand use and use under rugged patrol scenarios. FLIR has also lowered the price on their LS-series thermal cameras. At under $6,000, they are $500 less expensive than
