such as pad locks, chain link, burglar bars, and laminated glass. New for this year was Broco’s universal breaching tool. T e pro- totype was on display at their booth and available for attendees to try at the range. Designed for patrol operations, rapid deployment and tactical units, the tool features a sledge hammer head with an integrated pry extension. Its compact length makes it applicable to tight confi nes. T e distinctive spade handle is designed to impart maximum energy to compensate for the short overall length and relatively light weight.
20 Tactical Response Fall 2015
Last year Broco unveiled its ‘Jimmy’ tactical pry tool. Initially developed to create the initial gap in security doors for the Halligan tool, it has expanded to other uses. Its small size fi ts directly into MOLLE gear without a special pouch. It works equally well on inte- rior doors and exterior windows. Joos sees it as an alternative for pa- trol offi cers using knives as forced entry tools in exigent conditions. National Security Associates showed the innovative TEC Torch at their booth and during the fi rst range session. Made by EMP Corp, the device is approximately the size of a large D cell fl ashlight. It functions as a handheld torch that burns at 5400 degrees F. T e handle section contains a 9-volt battery and electronics component. T e forward half is a replaceable cartridge containing a solid reactive material. Burn time is just under two seconds, which is enough to cut pad locks and up to 5/8-inch steel bars. T e cartridge is easily replaced in the fi eld. T e fi ring handle can be reconfi gured to simultaneously fi re four cartridges for specifi c targets. Other adaptations are under development. T e Tec Torch is easily portable and can be an alternative to other steel cutting systems. T e speed in deploying the device is a defi nite benefi t. When activated, it produces quite a bit of fl ame and smoke at the target site. Despite what appears to be a rather violent reaction, users do not need specialized safety gear. Gloves and eye protection are suffi cient. Blue Line Consultants brought out their Bang Box for the fi rst time at a 2013 event. It is a small portable magazine designed to allow agencies
