His skates, however, were stolen a few years

ago and he has been so busy with his booming company, Ice-America, he hasn’t bothered to re- place them. So if there is interest in having him perform, he’s ready, but don’t look too closely at what’s on his feet. “If I can’t do the show in orange rental

skates, I guess I can’t do it,” said Williams, who can do all his footwork and spins in skates from his rental inventory. “I get them sharpened well.” Williams, 50, and his wife of 12 years,

Azumi Sagara Williams, 40, a former competi- tive ice dancer and show skater, are the owners of Ice-America, a company that brings rinks into diverse venues, from the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas to the Orange County Fair in Califor- nia to Legoland. Te rink at the Cosmopolitan is over the fourth-floor pool deck.

“You feel like you’re on the Las Vegas Strip

when you’re skating there,” Williams said. “Tey transformed the entire deck to look

like a ski lodge. It really brings in the local fami- lies,” Sagara Williams added. “We’re currently at the Los Angeles County Fair. It’s a totally differ- ent vibe from what we’ve ever done. Tis time we’re in an exhibit hall. Tey have a DJ come at night and mood lighting and ambiance.” Ice-America officially launched in 2010

after Williams and Sagara Williams had spent years producing shows and running a production company. In 2008, they started working on proj- ects related to seasonal ice rinks. Tey collaborate with two other companies, one a local (Califor- nia) staging company and the other a company in the Netherlands that makes excellent temporary ice rinks, where the ice stays frozen even in hot
