even watched tape of the L.A. Worlds [in 2009], but nothing could have prepared us.” Te siblings, who stood second after a superb
short dance, stepped onto the ice at TD Garden to deafening waves of applause. When they hit their twizzles two and a half minutes into their routine, the cheers turned into a collective roar. And as they gathered speed for the final 90 seconds, including an electrifying rotational lift and free-flowing diag- onal steps, the waves became an ocean. “Tey were supporting us every single step
out there,” Maia said. “It was a great way for us to end our season. Tat was our best performance.” Te judges agreed, awarding the Shibutanis a personal best 113.73 points. All seven elements gained Level 4s from the technical panel. Te siblings’ charming and intricate short
