obituaries JOST Jack Berthyl Jost, 85, of Phoenix, passed away
Dec. 9, 2015, at Desert Winds Assisted Living Facility in Peoria, Arizona, after a brief illness. He was the son of the late Emily and John Jost of
St. Louis. The youngest of three siblings, Jack served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 as a corporal during the Korean Conflict while continuing to figure skate competitively. He received the United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal for his military ser- vice.
Along with his skating partner, Carol (Johns) Gill,
they won the U.S. junior pairs and ice dance titles in 1951, and placed eighth in pairs at the 1952 World Championships. Retiring from competitive figure skat- ing, he devoted most of his working life to coaching
HEINOLD Veteran U.S. Figure Skating judge Doris Tufts Heinold,
of Wellesley Hills, Massachusetts, died Dec. 10, 2015, at New- ton Wellesley Hospital. She was 91. She was born in Cambridge of the late Nathaniel Perry Tufts
and Florence Batchelder Tufts, attended Wellesley High School and was a graduate in 1945 of Garland Junior College in Boston. Mrs. Heinold entered competitive figure skating at an
early age. She won a silver medal at the 1941 Eastern Sec- tional Championships, junior ladies section; her last amateur competition was at the 1942 U.S. Championships in Chicago. In 1944 she began her career as a figure skating judge
and became a U.S. national judge in 1963. During her career she judged 29 regionals, 18 sectionals, one U.S. Champion-
figure skating. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law,
Robin and Tim Neumann of Phoenix; daughter and son-in law, Jill and Rich Roper of Holly, Michigan; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Dale Brott of Akron, Ohio; and son and daughter-in-law, John and Rose Ann Jost of St. Louis; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, many friends and former students. In addition to his parents, and sisters, Verla and Lois, he was preceded in death by his first wife Joan, second wife, Carma and stepson, Alan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
one’s local Humane Society, as he was a great dog en- thusiast.
