Smiles Foundation. Sara’s Smiles inspiration kits are given to every child admitted to an oncolo- gy unit in one of 23 children’s hospitals nation- wide. Te skaters from Philadelphia Symmetry enjoyed making these kits, which contain items in a durable, portable box that help families stay organized, connect to others and explore creative ways to encourage smiles.

NATIONAL OVARIAN CANCER COALITION
STAR MATES INTERMEDIATE HAYDEN RECREATION CENTRE FSC
Star Mates hear the refrain “It’s the hard-
knock life” at every practice of their Annie pro- gram. While a hard-knock reality is far from the skaters’ daily lives, the ability to empathize is not. Tat is why the team has supported two vol-
unteer opportunities during the 2015–16 season; one supports the National Ovarian Cancer Coa- lition.
Te 17th Annual Run/Walk to Beat Ovar- ian Cancer was held on a rainy day in Septem- ber at Carson Beach in Massachusetts. Te Star Mates have participated in this event annually
Star Mates
since the team was founded in 2011, and this year they raised more than $1,300 to advance the cause.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN
When the Starlights juvenile team is not on
the ice doing great things, its skaters are doing great things off the ice. Last fall, the team spent an afternoon packing meals for hungry children around the world at the Libertyville, Illinois, location of Feed My Starving Children, a non- profit organization committed to feeding hungry children by sending specially formulated meals to children in nearly 70 countries around the world. With every case packed full of food, the team shouted out, “Feeding hungry kids the Starlights way!”
STARLIGHTS NOVICE SKOKIE VALLEY SKATING CLUB
SOLES4SOULS
Te Starlights novice team set a goal early in the season to spend time giving back to the community at least once a month throughout this competition season. In September, the team began gathering shoes to donate to those less fortunate, collecting nearly 5,000 pairs for the Soles 4 Souls organization. Tey also used it as a fundraiser through the Funds2Orgs company. Te Soles4Souls organization recognizes
that in developing nations, walking is the prima- ry mode of transportation. Every day, millions are exposed to unsanitary conditions that lead to disease, which may lead to sickness, even death. Te Starlights were able to provide a life-chang- ing solution: a good pair of shoes.
