• T e ultimate goal of the new design for the snare drum hoop was to achieve repeatability for the drummer to tune the instrument on a consistent basis and achieve the desired quality of sound with minimal eff ort.

• T e alloy silicon bronze instead of the industry standard aluminum or zinc improved the tonal quality (reso- nance) of the instrument. T e alloy, along with some design modifi cations, also increased part stiff ness and strength, reducing bending and fl exing of the hoop during tuning.

Design modifi cations increase the hoop-to-drum-head stuck surface contact, which makes “cross stick” and “rim shot” drumming techniques easier and with improved resonance and sound quality.
