American Axle Honored by GM, Acquisition of Metaldyne Complete American Axle & Manufacturing
(Detroit) was named a GM Supplier of the Year by General Motors during its Supplier of the Year awards ceremony. GM recognized 118 of its best sup-
pliers from 15 countries that have con- sistently exceeded GM’s expectations, created outstanding value or brought new innovations to the company. “We are focused on building
positive supplier relationships, bringing new, customer-centric innovations to GM and being the OEM of choice among suppliers,” said Steve Kiefer, GM vice presi- dent, global purchasing and supply chain. “The companies we recog- nize tonight not only have brought innovation, they delivered it with
the quality our customers deserve.” Winning suppliers were chosen
by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives and selected based on performance criteria in product purchasing, indirect pur- chasing, customer care and after- sales, and logistics. “AAM’s partnerships with our
customers are an integral part of our mission to provide value while supply- ing innovative, high-quality driveline products,” said David C. Dauch, chairman and CEO, AAM. “We are honored by this recognition from GM and will continue to work each day to exceed our customers’ expectations.” American Axle also completed the
acquisition of Metaldyne Performance Group. T e move had been announced late last year. “Today is a historic day where
we combine the strengths of both AAM and MPG into a premier, global Tier 1 automotive supplier with broader capabilities across multiple product lines,” Dauch said. “This transformational acquisition will allow us to maximize stake- holder value by creating a company with greater size, scale and increased business diversification that delivers efficient, powerful and innovative solutions for our customers.” T e acquisition, worth a reported
$3.3 billion, was fi rst announced in November. ■
