Hand rails lining potentially slippery steps keep ski resort patrons balanced. Pipe fi t- tings for these rails are cast in aluminum. Using aluminum alloy 535 provides corrosion resistance in harsh conditions, such as a winter storm.


Bases for outdoor umbrellas on the patio are cast iron to provide a durable, stable foundation to help this piece of furniture shield patrons from the sun and withstand winds on blustery days.

Large steel castings are found on ski lift structures. Aluminum castings also are used in the sheave equipment that operates the cable. A stainless steel grip provides security for the skier.


Snowboard and ski bindings feature a vari- ety of cast aluminum components, including the mount and ratchets, to help keep the board attached to the athletes’ boots. ■
