1 2 1. Joseph Codrington
Codrington (BA84) led EMU to six Mid-American Conference Championships in indoor and outdoor track. In 1984, he was the Indoor MAC Champion in the 600-yard run. Codrington remained involved in the sport as an agent for various athletes competing in the Olympics, including EMU runners at the London games in 2012 and at the Sydney games in 2000.
2. Tracy Deeter 3 4
Deeter (BS01) was a fi erce competitor on the soccer fi eld and led EMU to the MAC tournament title in 1999. She was a two-time fi rst team all-MAC selection and the fi rst player in program history to be named CoSIDA Academic All-American as well as a College Scholar All-American.
3. George Harrison
Harrison (BS67, MA72) earned seven varsity letters in football and baseball. In football, he was all-conference as a defensive back and fi nished his career with 16 interceptions—second most in school history. He was also a receiver, kicker and returner. Harrison signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions in 1966.
5 6 4. Paul Scicluna
Known as the “Godfather of Michigan Soccer,” Scicluna was a successful youth coach before starting the EMU women’s soccer program in 1994. He coached at Eastern for fi ve years before a car accident claimed his life. His legacy continues as the EMU women’s varsity fi eld was named in his honor.
7 5. L. J. Shelton
Shelton played left tackle for EMU and was a two-time fi rst team all-MAC selection. In 1998, he was team MVP. He was the fi rst football player in school history to be named to four post-season all-star games. Shelton was the 21st pick in the 1999 NFL draft and played in the NFL for 11 seasons for the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers.
6. Stephanie Smiley
Smiley (BS04) was a two-time fi rst team all-MAC pick in basketball and started every game of her college career. She left EMU holding career records for games played, games started, minutes played, assists and rebounds. She was the fi rst player in MAC history—male or female—to record at least 1,400 points, 700 rebounds, 500 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocked shots.
7. Barry Susterka
Susterka (BS78) is one of the most celebrated divers in EMU history. He was a three-time MAC one-meter diving champion and a three-time NCAA national championship qualifi er. He also was the MAC champion in three-meter diving. He went on to coach at Wyoming and Kansas,
