Nathan Bomey (BS06), Outstanding Young Alumni Award


Nathan Bomey, formerly the lead reporter covering Detroit’s historic Chapter 9 bankruptcy for the Detroit Free Press, is co-author of “How Detroit Went Broke.” The book, based on a three- month investigation, earned him a fi rst place award for “Explanatory Journalism in a Newspaper” from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. During his years at EMU, Nathan served as managing editor, news editor and news manager at The Eastern Echo; he is now a business reporter for USA Today, based in the Washington, D.C., area.


Jeff Tomschin (MS04), Outstanding Young Alumni Award


Jeff Tomschin is vice president of human resources at Phillips Service Industries, Inc. in Livonia, responsible for talent acquisition, retention, employee relations, training, development and other services for clients in the aerospace, defense, energy and automotive industries. He holds numerous professional certifi cations, and is director of the Michigan Council of the Society for Human Resource Management. Jeff has been a facilitator of HR certifi cation preparation courses off ered by EMU for the past fi ve years, and he sits on the EMU College of Business Advisory Board to the Dean.
