DR. JOHN W. PORTER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE


DONALD LOPPNOW joined Eastern Michigan University in 1974 as a lecturer in sociology. Since then, he has held many academic and university- wide leadership roles, including interim director of the Offi ce of Research and Development, provost and vice president for academic affairs, and vice president for advancement, to name a few. During his time with EMU, Don has also shown commitment to the community, volunteering his time with more than 12 different local organizations. He served the University as interim president—his third time in the role—from January 2016 until the arrival of Dr. James Smith, EMU’s 23rd president, on July 1, 2016.

DREW J. MINOCK (BS10) is passionate about bringing high-quality, innovative technology into the classroom. Amidst a booming industry, he has quickly become an expert in educational, developmentally appropriate tech—delivering keynote presentations around the globe and serving as Education Programs Director for DAQRI, LLC, the world’s leading augmented reality developer. Drew continues to give back to EMU by presenting on campus and serving as a resource for the Early Childhood Education Program. He’s co-founded a popular educational blog, Two Guys and Some iPads, and produces a podcast meant to inspire other educators.
