Champions Are Built Here Eastern wins six MAC titles in 2015-16

No one wins the MAC like Eastern. Since joining the Mid-American

Conference in 1973, Eastern has won 135 team championships—more than any other conference member. And while other schools might be content to rest upon their athletic laurels, Eastern continues to build a legacy of domination, winning six more MAC championships in 2015-2016. In March, the men’s swimming and diving

team extended its long history of success by winning its 33rd MAC championship. Coaches Buck Smith and Peter Linn were named Diving Coach of the Year and Swimming Coach of the Year, respectively. Te award is the 16th for Smith and seventh for Linn.

Te men’s cross country team leſt its

opponents in the dust in October while collecting its sixth consecutive MAC championship, breaking its previous record of five. Te Eagles took five spots in the top 10, as junior Nick Raymond was crowned individual MAC champion. It’s the 16th time an Eastern student-athlete has claimed the title. A come-from-behind team effort led the

women’s track team to its fiſth MAC indoor championship. Eastern trailed aſter the first day of the championship in February, but a solid effort on day two propelled the team to a first-place finish by one point. Aſter the meet, Coach Sue Parks received MAC Coach of the Year honors. Tree months later, the team claimed the outdoor championship as well.

Ten there are the relative championship

newcomers. Eastern’s women’s gymnastics team blew away the competition in March while earning its second MAC Championship—the team’s first since 2007. And the women’s cross country team claimed its first-ever MAC title last October. As with women’s track, Coach Sue Parks received Coach of the Year honors. With the men’s team winning the MAC championship as well, Eastern is the first school to claim men’s and women’s cross country titles in the same season since 1995. Tese are just the latest in Eastern’s long line

of MAC championships. With the sweat and resolve of Eagles student-athletes, there are surely more to come.
