Youth Activities


Youth groups that focus on activities that support veterans and their families


are eligible for recognition from National Headquarters—a Youth Groups Supporting Our Veterans Citation. The VFW Auxiliary also encourages members to recognize youth for achievements in their communities. Here’s what some youth groups have done and how members have


recognized them.


Rock Garden American Flag Lexington, South Carolina


A student working on his Boy Scout Eagle project, along with 17 other Boy Scouts and adult leaders, created an American Flag rock sculpture outside VFW Post 8738 “that would make people think of patriotism and all that the veterans have done for our country.” This project earned National Headquarters’ Youth Groups Supporting Our Veterans Citation.

veterans suicide awareness. The team posted their 22 push-up challenge on social media and encouraged others in the community and even the NFL to follow suit. The idea came from a member of a Post 2224 youth group. This project also earned a Youth Groups Supporting Our Veterans Citation.


Young Patriots Vine Grove, Kentucky


Members of VFW Auxiliary 10281’s sponsored youth group, the “Young


Patriots,” are having fun while learning patriotism and helping veterans and active-duty service members. These children aided the Auxiliary in VSRQVRULQJ

After a meeting with guest speakers explaining what it meant to be a veteran, these children helped pack 20 boxes of needed hygiene items and various treats to give service members a taste of home. The boxes also LQFOXGHG PHVVDJHV IURP WKH FKLOGUHQ DQG ´$GRSWLRQ &HUWLÀ FDWHVµ VLJQHG E\ members of VFW Post and Auxiliary 10281.


Athletic Achievement Williams, Arizona Auxiliary 12128 in Williams, Arizona, honored


their town’s girls’ softball teams, all of which PDGH LW WR VWDWH ZLWK FHUWLÀ FDWHV RI DSSUHFLDWLRQ and a ladies’ tea event.
