I recently read the
article published in the November issue of VFW Auxiliary Magazine about the concerns of an Auxiliary member in Washington, D.C. She voiced thoughts of more being done for our (veterans) who are coming home now more disabled than ever with the physical problems, but also the PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). An article said we have raised billions of dollars for cancer – also said we no longer support the cancer campaign. We still take money and raised money from what I understood. Why are we not raising more money to help our

(veterans) – it is just as big an issue as cancer. Neither one is stopping… Why can’t half of what we take in raising money
for cancer be used to help our (veterans)? Like she said, our veterans are really suffering. We need to do more for them. Because the government is cutting more and more. I would like to know that the money we provide to our veterans, that they are actually getting it.

From the Editors: Thank you for all your great questions! Over the years, members have raised millions of dollars for Cancer Aid & Research, not billions. The fund MUST be used for the purpose that it was collected, by law. The fund continues to support Cancer Grants to members who are battling cancer, as well as supporting research designated by the National President. (See Page 7 for National President Guilford’s fi rst donation.) So, we cannot take money out of that fund for other purposes. We completely agree that more should be done for our
for many years. Recently, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Thanks to your help fi nancially (Cancer Grant), I was able to pay for medicine and travel. Mostly I would sincerely like to thank our Post 6780 for keeping me busy helping. I still am able to help with many events and the courses we have chosen to help out veterans. Thank you all for your prayers, and may all of the
future Auxiliaries continue on the path of respect for our veterans.
