ometimes it’s quite hard to write this piece without sounding negative –
but let’s give it a go… the sun is shining, the days are getting longer and for sure it’s getting warmer. Life is good! And staying positive, the rapid
growth of the hedgerows, grass, nettles and reeds will soon cover up all of the rubbish that’s been visible all winter. You’ve got to love the great British public and their bad habits haven’t you?
As I write this it has just become apparent that Shimano has become the
‘exclusive tackle sponsor’ of the Angling Trust’s ‘Anglers Against Litter’ campaign. The agreement will see Shimano working with the Angling Trust to encourage anglers to support action on litter, providing resources to enable clubs to undertake litter picks and encouraging all to pledge their support to ‘Take 5’ – picking up five items of litter or spending five minutes at the end of a fishing session to collect and safely dispose of litter. As well as providing more resources to support action on litter, Shimano
will also be offering rewards to recognise those that make sustained commitments to tackle litter pollution. Fair play to Shimano for lending their considerable weight to this cause. I hope some good comes of it as like most people I’m sick to the back teeth of seeing the state some people leave the countryside.
