Angling Direct opens its Euro distribution centre- Dutch retailer opens in UK!

Raven Fishing launches into the UK as Angling Direct officially opens its Netherlands warehousing to supply Europe

A

ngling Direct has officially opened its new European distribution centre

in Venlo, Holland – with the intention of establishing itself as the number one retailer of fishing tackle in Europe. The 3,940 square metre facility located in the south of the Netherlands, marks a significant milestone for the company. And according to Angling Direct, the new facility provides significant logistical capacity to support future growth and will help the increased export costs and extended customer fulfilment times seen post-Brexit that have impacted recent periods. Andy Torrance, CEO of Angling

Direct, commented: "We are delighted to have opened our new European distribution centre and to be delivering products to customers across this strategically important region. We see a significant opportunity to continue to grow our market share and European expansion remains a key pillar in the company's growth strategy. “As a result, this new facility will help us accelerate delivery of our strategic

plans in a more cost and time efficient manner. I would like to thank the team for their hard work over recent weeks to ensure a smooth and successful launch." But it appears that just as in the UK, Angling Direct will not have it all its own way – as European dealers up their aggression levels and look to fight back on mainland Europe. And on the eve of Angling Direct officially launching into Europe, one of Holland’s biggest dealers, Raven Hengelsport, has launched its first UK webshop. Trading as Raven Fishing, the retailer has ambitious expansion plans. Dion Raven, co-owner of the company, told T&G: “We’re one month in to our soft launch in the UK – where we are testing out the systems and ironing out any problems. Over the next few months we will start ramping up the operation. We are selling all of the big brands as long as our own brand goods and we will be selling to the UK based on our excellent service. We’re giving British costomers more than the

option to buy – Raven will show them the entire world of angling.” Raven already has five physical shops – four in Holland, and one on the Czech Republic, as well as webshops in France, Poland, and the UK. And it also has plans to open up in the Nordics and Spain. “We’re following what Angling

Direct is doing very closely. They’ve now officially opened in mainland Europe and we are expanding too – but our way. Just like in the UK, I don’t think they’ll have an easy time. Dealers will react."
