Sharpe’s of Aberdeen under new ownership

S

cottish heritage brand Sharpe’s of Aberdeen has been acquired by MAG NI Holdings Ltd, the owner of Dennett Outdoor. The business has now been re-located to its base in Northern Ireland where the manufacturing of Sharpe’s products will continue. The new Sharpe’s company directors, Mark and Aaron Gamble, are pleased to continue carrying the baton of this strong UK brand. Both Mark and Aaron had a good

relationship with Stuart Wright the previous owner and had in fact spoken to Stuart about a possible purchase of the company, prior to the sad news of Stuart’s passing in December 2020. The future for the brand became uncertain for a time until a deal with Mark and Aaron was finalised.

Mark Gamble said: “I would like to thank

Stuart’s wife, Ruth, for her co-operation and assistance during the difficult past year or two. I hope that the business moving on to new hands will allow her to focus on what is the next chapter of her life now.” Ruth Wright has issued a statement saying:

“Finally, and no doubt after much speculation, I’m sure I am delighted to announce we are handing over the reins of Sharpe’s into the capable hands of Mark and Aaron Gamble. “I would like to take this opportunity to give my heartfelt thanks to our stalwarts, Don and Jenny who kept my company running, not only during Stuart’s illness, but since his passing, without whom there would have been no Sharpe’s to hand over. “I would also extend thanks to our loyal customer base who I hope will continue to support Dennett Outdoor during the transition. “Finally. continued success and hopefully development of Sharpe’s products in the future. Thank you and goodnight. Ruth + Stuart Wright.” Sharpe’s of Aberdeen will join Dennett Outdoor as part of the MAG NI Holdings portfolio. Both companies will continue to be run as a separate entities. However, Dennett Outdoor will now be the exclusive distributor to the trade of Sharpe’s products in the UK and Ireland. Aaron commented: “Our plan is to increase manufacturing capacity to fulfill existing and future demand. We are excited by the prospect of building the Sharpe’s brand back to where it belongs, while simultaneously developing new game fishing products for the future.” Sharpe’s of Aberdeen can trace a history dating back to 1920 when J S Sharpe set up his tackle business in John Street, Aberdeen. The Sharpe’s of Aberdeen built a reputation for quality and innovation in the design and manufacture of split cane rods and this continues today with the award winning Gordon series of fly rods. This extensive range continues to receive excellent customer and trade feedback. Sharpe’s of Aberdeen landing nets continue to be made today to the exact same standards and materials as the day they were first made. Along with the wading staffs, they faithfully follow a long standing design and are widely regarded as the industry standard and market leaders.
