T9 bus service grows as Cardiff Airport goes from strength to strength
The T9 bus service linking Cardiff with Cardiff Airport has experienced its best year on record, figures released by Welsh Government have shown. Quarterly figures up to September 2016 show an average of over 13,200 passengers a month used the service in the last year, with month on month growth every month since June 2014. Economy Secretary Ken Skates said: “Cardiff Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK and continues to go from strength to strength. I’ve been clear that a reliable, frequent bus service linking the airport to Cardiff and beyond is key if the airport is to reach its full potential and it’s encouraging to see that popularity of the T9 service has risen alongside the growth of the airport. “The service, of course, serves a dual purpose, not only providing passengers from Wales and the South West with public access to the airport but also providing a vital public transport link to visitors. The airport continues to work hard to increase destinations, routes and possibilities on offer and I look forward to the T9 continuing to form part of this offering and building on these positive passenger trends.” Debra Barber, CEO at Cardiff Airport added; “An express bus service is vital for a capital city airport and we are hugely encouraged by the growth of the T9 and keen for opportunities to link the airport to west Wales to be explored. “As an airport we have huge ambitions for growth and improved surface access, including bus, road and rail links is critical in helping us achieve this.”
Students Serve Up Hospitality Dinner with Clink Restaurant
Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Hospitality Management students have served up a delicious feast at an annual Industry-Education dinner held by the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management. This year’s event was held in collaboration with The Clink restaurant and hosted at the University’s SA Brains Hospitality Suite within Cardiff School of Management. The Clink is a restaurant run by The Clink Charity which is based at HMP Cardiff and is staffed by prisoners working towards City & Guilds NVQs in Food Preparation, Food Service and Customer Service. Working at The Clink helps lead to their employment within the UK hospitality industry upon release – it is a national scheme which aims to reduce the reoffending rate of prisoners. The Clink has won several prestigious awards, including being named tenth best restaurant in the UK in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2015. Guests from VisitWales, Sodexo, KidneyWales, National Museum Wales, Cardiff Airport and City of Cardiff Council attended the dinner.
Students Alex Rose and Kathryn Irwin
Schools, colleges and industry partners that offer Cardiff Met students placements and scholarships were also invited. On the night, Head Chef Sebastien Vanoni mentored and worked with two prisoners from the Clink and Cardiff Met students. The experience provided students with an authentic and hands-on experience of working in a professional restaurant, both in the kitchen and as front-of-house serving staff. of The Clink Restaurant at HMP Cardiff said: “As an organisation that is wholly dedicated to training, we were so pleased to have been asked to collaborate on this event. The event provided both the students at Cardiff Met and our prisoners in training a great opportunity to showcase their skills and to further develop the relationship between the university and The Clink Charity and Restaurants. We wish all students who took part in the event all the best in progressing their careers.”
