Ty Enfys Care Home in Pentwyn, Cardiff, has celebrated its 10th birthday with a party and tree planting ceremony to mark the milestone event. The popular home, which had its grand launch in February 2010, put on a bash for residents, team and members of the local community complete with a tree planting ceremony, cake, and entertainment from Britain’s Got Talent 2016 fi nalist and singer Melanie Bell.

People in Wales are being urged to fall back in love with seafood, as diseases such as heart disease and Alzheimer’s are on the rise. Seafi sh, the UK’s authority on seafood has launched a campaign – Fish 2 a Week – to encourage people to eat just two portions of fi sh a week, to help keep such diseases at bay. Despite 76% of adults in Wales being worried about their health, a survey carried out by Seafi sh, found that 58% of adults in Wales aren’t eating enough fi sh, leaving them vulnerable to poor health. The NHS and health professionals recommend that we eat two portions of fi sh each week - one of which should be an oily fi sh - as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Two portions of fi sh a week has been recommended by the NHS to help ensure we keep our bodies in good working order and can help maintain a healthy heart. Eating fi sh also helps to lower risk of diabetes and Alzheimer’s and contributes to healthy skin, hair and nails as well as the maintenance of normal vision, brain function and better sleep. The research highlighted just how many people in Wales weren’t aware of the recommended fi sh consumption (84%), but after being told the health benefi ts of fi sh, 70% said that this encouraged them to eat more. Victoria Taylor, Senior Dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, said: “As part of a healthy, balanced diet we should all be aiming for two portions of fi sh a week, including one of oily fi sh. As well as being a nutritious source of protein, it’s a feature of the Mediterranean- style diet that has been associated with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease and stroke.” Seafi sh’s

That’s why we should all eat two portions a week, one of which should be an oil-rich fi sh, like sardines or pilchards.” Seafi sh’s survey gathered results from all corners of the UK and cod was found to be Wales’ most popular fi sh compared to tuna in Yorkshire and haddock in Scotland. Variety is key. Seafi sh’s ‘Fish 2 a Week’ campaign will hopefully encourage people to try alternative, tasty species and make new recipes with old favourites.
