Sigma 3 saves the day for Urdd under 14s


Welsh kitchen manufacturer, Sigma 3 Kitchens, is delighted to announce that they have recently become a main sponsor of the Urdd Under 14s Welsh language football team. When staff at Sigma 3 discovered that the team’s main sponsor had pulled out with just a couple of weeks to go before the season was due to begin Steve Tough, Commercial Sales Director for Sigma 3’s Masterclass brand, and Pat Thomas, Sigma’s Retail Sales Director, didn’t hesitate to step in at the last minute to ensure that the team had a new kit ready for the new season. “My son is a striker in the Urdd Team” said Steve. “The boys have been playing in the same team together since they were about 7 years old and they did

Children set The Very Hungry Caterpillar™ charity conga challenge


UK charity Action for Children and The World Of Eric Carle™ are encouraging children’s groups, schools, libraries, and friends and family to host a Giant Wiggle during the week of 20-26 March 2017. Urdd is an organisation established in 1922 with the aim of protecting the Welsh language by giving children a place to learn and socialise in Welsh outside of school. The new Under 14s football shirt is branded with the Sigma 3 Kitchens logo on the front and the logo for Sigma’s Masterclass brand on the back. Matthew Bryon, one of the coaches for Urdd Football Team, said: “The boys are delighted with their new kit. We’ve been working with the team since they were 7 and it has been a real privilege watching them grow and improve their football skills and develop a great team spirit. We are very proud of the boys and they certainly look the part thanks to Sigma’s generous sponsorship!”


Iphigenia in Splott goes international

Following hugely successful performances across the UK, Sherman Theatre will share Gary Owen’s award- winning play Iphigenia in Splott with audiences in Berlin and New York this spring.


Iphigenia in Splott will be performed at one of the world’s most innovative theatres, Berlin’s Schaubühne, from 6 – 8 April. From 9 May – 4 June, the play will be presented at New York’s 59E59 Theatre as part of its established Brits Off Broadway festival. This exciting development demonstrates Sherman Theatre’s fast-growing artistic stature and underlines its position as one the UK’s major forces in new writing. This international tour aims to develop Sherman Theatre’s presence on the international stage. Artistic Director Rachel O’ Riordan says ‘I am so proud to be bringing the best of Welsh talent to an international audience. Playing at the Schaubühne in Berlin and at the


59E59 in New York puts the Sherman right at the heart of ground-breaking, world-class new work. We are honoured to have been selected, and to represent Wales on the world stage’. These two high profi le international engagements follow massively popular runs of this relevant and urgent play at the National Theatre, London, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, on tour across the UK and at home in Cardiff. Iphigenia in Splott has been recognised as one of the most important new plays of the past three years, winning both the UK Theatre Award for Best New Play in 2015 and the James Tait Black Prize for Drama in 2016. Sophie Melville reprises her acclaimed performance of Effi e, a young woman who pays a high price for society’s shortcomings. Sophie was recently nominated in the Best Actress category at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2016 alongside Billie Piper, Helen McCrory and Noma Dumezweni.
