Two butchers from the Cardiff area – Martin Player in Whitchurch and Moody Sow Farm Shop in Old St Mellons - have fl own the fl ag for Wales in the Butchers Q Guild Smithfi eld Awards, a high profi le event that is regarded as one of the toughest product evaluation tests in the land, held aloft as the Guild’s annual ‘Oscars.’ Martin Player High Class Butchers secured a high profi le double when receiving special awards for both the Best Welsh Beef and Lamb products, with both categories sponsored by Hybu Cig Cymru Meat Promotion Wales. The Park Road shop clinched the former with its Euro Burger, which was awarded maximum marks by the judges, the latter with its Greek-style Lamb Roast, a Kitchen Ready Product. Welsh butchers shine in Q Guild 2017 Smithfi eld Awards

Winners were announced at a ceremony in Ironmongers Hall, London on 1st February, when the awards were presented by the acclaimed British food writer and food critic Tom Parker Bowles.
