It’s been a challenging Christmas and NewYear period for many retailers. It may have been mild but anglers appear to have curled up in front of the TV rather than get out catching. Almost three-quarters of surveyed dealers said


footfall was down and 71 per cent said sales followed suit. Profit year-on-year was split a bit more evenly – roughly half on each side.

cent up) were recorded by mail-order tackle sellers over the past month (compared with only 38 per cent up last time out),while internet tackle sales were also more positive,with 46 per cent (39 per cent last time) admitting to higher sales. It was, of course, extremely tough going for country clothing sellers in this market – more than 90 per

are expecting the worst for January and February – only a quarter were hopeful of better times in what is always a tough period, down significantly from 43 per cent last issue.
