Astley Hire celebrates half-century
As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, Astley Hire of Leigh was visited recently by local MP Andy Burnham, who was given a guided tour of the company’s premises by Commercial Director Stephen Dorricott and his brother, Michael, Operations Director, whose parents founded the business.
Treste completes Shindaiwa line-up
Shindaiwa has supplied Treste Hire and Sales of Chesterfield with 25 ECO 300 welder generators for its fleet. MD Alex Widerman, who is pictured, right, with Shindaiwa’s Andy Munford, said the machines were chosen for their low emissions and economical running. They incorporate an eco-friendly mode and auto-idling as standard. Treste has offered Shindaiwa products for more than five years and the addition
of these latest models means that the company now provides the full range of ECO machines, including the 165, 200, 420 and 500 variants.
Toga Award nomination As we described in an article in our July 2006 issue,
when the company achieved its 40-year milestone, it has adapted and grown ever since Cyril and Mildred Dorricott first started hiring water pumps to motorway construction contractors, out of the family’s grocery and hardware shop in Astley, in 1966. The fledgling business quickly grew and in 1968 Cyril committed full-time to Astley Hire, increasing the range of equipment offered, and eventually phasing out the grocery business. Today, Astley Hire employs a team of 25 and serves
customers throughout the north west of England. It has six divisions, offering powered access platforms, cooling and heating equipment, scaffolding, tools and industrial cleaning machinery.
The Bow depot of Toga Hire Centres has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Hire Network Award, which recognises excellent performance at an individual location. “The team at Bow always provides good kit backed up by excellent service and accurate paperwork, and they do a great job serving customers in the very busy east London area,” Hire Network MD Barry Dean told EHN. Two other finalists will be selected before the end of the year, with the winner being announced at the Executive Hire Show.
