A strong Rhapsody line was also formed in Mark and Sian Williams’ Lyganlan herd with the purchase of Clayden Rhapsody EX92. She is still alive in the herd today at almost 19 years


2013 and the third time for Gold Rhapsody who was nominated as a second calver in 2011, senior second calver 2012 and third calver 2013 and the fi rst nomination for the young Dusk cow. “The Rhapsody family has consistently bred productive, functional, herd cows, that have lasted well without being outstanding show cows until the use of Goldwyn,” said Mark.


They Rhapsodys have made their mark in the Bridge End herd with 70 registered family members since restocking in 2002 which included Riverdane Silky Rapture and embryos out of her by Ruben. She went on to have six heifers including three EX and one VG daughter, her best record out of her fi ve lactations was 10,389kg at 4.02%bf and 3.03%p.


Another investment was made with the purchase of Butlersarms Goldwyn Rhapsody EX90 as a maiden heifer at Beeston. She went on to stand second and reserve junior champion at Northern Expo. Commenting on the family Colin Dent said: “They are very consistent herd cows with great udders and good rump structure.”

Her eldest daughter Lyganlan Derry Rhapsody EX93-4E bred an EX92 Zenith, two EX90 and two VG88 daughters. “We currently have the fourteenth gen- eration straight excellent from the Rhap- sodys,” says Mark. “We fi nd they are good herd cows, not generally the biggest, but all want to milk and classify well.” The family secured the three generation group for three consecutive years in the South Wales Holstein Club Herds Com- petition with Clayden Rhapsody, Derry Rhapsody and Zenith Rhapsody.
