Petal EX93 making her full sister to the successful Glaslough Miss Petra who was champion at the Irish National and Balmoral Shows and reserve at Emerald Expo 2014. Securing second place in the senior heifer class was Ballyginniff Lauthority Willow from the Patterson family. Classified VG88 she calved in June and is giving 30kg a day. She stood first in-calf heifer at the Irish National Holstein Show 2014 and is out of Clandeboye Storm Willow EX94.


Hallow Holsteins won the dry cow class


with Hallow Lheros Indianink, due in March to Atwood with her fifth calf she was honourable at Millstreet 2014. Second to her was Bannwater Storm Sheba 32 from Andrew Magowan, this EX95 scored cow is coming with her ninth calf and has produced more than 100t in her lifetime.


There were two classes of second calvers with the honourable mention from the Patton family coming from the junior split. Second to her was Clongowes Atwood Thelma from George and Jason Booth. Fresh in August she classified VG88 as a heifer and gave 9329kg at 5.08%bf and 3.48%p in her first 305-day lactation, she is out of the EX91

Winning the senior second calver class was Clonpaddin GKS Fame from Clonpaddin Holsteins. This November 2009-born Sanchez daughter is out of Cradenhill Linjet Fame EX92 one of three excellent dams. She edged in front of her full sister Clonpaddin G Fame from Cyril Dowling and Mr Eager in second. Taking second spot in the third calver class was Bordermist Sanchez Fran from the Bordermist Syndicate. She was first and reserve champion at the Ulster Winter Fair 2013 and first at the Spring Fair. Her dam is the VG89 scored Glaslough Gibson Fran. In a very strong mature cow class Hallow Advent Twizzle 3 stood second in what Brian Carscadden described as an outstanding “top three.” Owned and shown by Philip Jones she calved in May and was giving 45kg a day and was reserve champion at Millstreet 2013 having been interbreed heifer champion at Millstreet 2010 also. Standing third to her was Cyril Dowling’s Baldonnel Mr S Raquel, this EX93 fourth lactation cow stood champion Holstein at the Winter Fair in 2011. Sired by Mr Sam she is out of Mayne Redstone Raquel EX93.


The final class of the day was the production class for cows having produced 50t or more and at the top of the line was Morrell McCollum’s sixth calved Boghill Shottle L Victoria EX95. Having produced 70t in her lifetime so far she stood second at the Royal Ulster Winter Fair 2013. Second here was Clandeboye Champion Francesca, an EX94 fourth calver from Clandeboye Estates.
