the lake, featuring stunt peformers, fountains, lights and other special effects to create “a spectacular dreamlike effect”. Elsewhere at Wanda City, entertainment offerings include an IMAX theatre and cinema complex. The park's construction was handled by Wanda's own
local project management team, founded three years ago as the company readied itself for its entrance into the attractions business (or “cultural tourism” as they call it), alongside its existing retail, real estate, movie and entertainment divisions. “We had known Wanda for some time already long
before they built their first park,” explains Wang at Jora Vision. “They've archived their plan and goal in the entertainment industry in a short space of time.” As part of its design package in Hefei, Jora assisted with
the park's architecture, theming, landscaping, interior, lighting, audiovisual, graphics and signage, but was not involved with any on-site art direction, this being carried out by three local companies. Elsewhere at Hefei Wanda City, the Hui architectural style has been adopted for the hotel cluster built around the lake.
