Toy Story Land

Shanghai Disney confirms plans for 2018

Toy Story Land will be the seventh zone at the park in mainland China, which debuted in June 2016. Leaders from the joint venture’s two shareholders, The Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group, recently broke ground on the new themed land, in a sign of their confidence in the growing consumer demand for themed entertainment in China, and as a clear sign of the early success of wider Shanghai Disney Resort. “We couldn’t be more pleased with Shanghai Disneyland’s first four months of

operation and couldn’t be more excited about our future in mainland China,” remarked Walt Disney Parks and Resorts chairman, Bob Chapek. “Toy Story Land will be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese, delighting our guests for years to come.”

Knott's 2017

Sol Spin, believed to be a Mondial Top Scan, will bring brand new thrills to the Fiesta Village area of Knott's Berry Farm outside Los Angeles this coming spring. The new ride will send brave guests on a topsy-turvy

adventure over six storeys high as they rotate in all directions on one of six spinning arms. Its launch will be followed by the summer arrival of the new Boardwalk Barbecue restaurant near Xcelerator. At the neighbouring Knott’s Soak City

Waterpark, two new two water slide towers will open, suppliers to be confirmed. Shore Break will offer six different thrilling water slide experiences. Four of the slides will feature an Aqua-Launch chamber which will launch guests as the floor under their feet drops them into an almost vertical free fall through a series of flat loops and S-curves in a translucent flume. Shore Break will also feature duelling tube slides that will zip riders through an enchanting series of drops and turns. The Wedge slide tower will take the location of the current Pacific Spin and will be an open air family raft ride. Up to six guests at a time will descend down navigating twists and turns and unexpected drops. The waterpark expansion project will also include updated shaded seating areas, cabanas and a remodelled Longboards’ Grill featuring historical locations and references to Erie's role in the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812. A model of the US Brig Niagara sits atop the structure, which includes 102 water attractions including a 40ft high tipping bucket and seven water slides.

fter the introduction of similar themed areas at Disney parks in Paris and Hong Kong, Shanghai Disneyland is set to welcome Woody, Buzz and their Toy Story friends to a new land opening in 2018.

“Since its opening in June this year, Shanghai Disneyland’s operation has run

smoothly and our guests have been very enthusiastic,” added Fan Xiping, chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group. “We have received positive feedback from the entire society – all of which makes us excited about the future.” Characters and stories from the Toy Story franchise have already proved popular

with Chinese guests at Shanghai Disney Resort, which boasts the world's first and only Toy Story-themed resort hotel. Shanghai Disneyland park also boasts the interactive dark ride Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue. A fourth Toy Story Land is planned for Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt

Disney World in Orlando (opening date to be confirmed), featuring rides including the Slinky Dog Dash rollercoaster and Alien Swirling Saucers. The Shanghai land, however, is likely to feature several unique attractions and experiences.

Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay

Universal recently announced details about two planned features at its upcoming Volcano Bay water theme park opening in early summer 2017 at Universal Orlando Resort. Krakatau Aqua Coaster will take riders through

the park’s 200-feet-long (61m) Krakatau volcano on board specially-designed canoes and propel them downwards and upwards through the interior peaks and valleys. They’ll twist, turn and plummet along dark passageways and be launched through waterfalls. The attraction, by ProSlide, will use linear induction motor technology that launches

the canoe uphill before it immediately sends riders into a downhill plunge.

In what could be a taste of things to come in the industry, the

waterpark's attractions will operate exclusively to pre-reserved slots. Each guest will be given a TapuTapu bracelet that will allow them, with a simple tap, to wait in line virtually while they play in other areas of the park. Guests can also trigger special effects like controlling streams of water spurting from whales in Tot Tiki Reef, shoot water cannons at guests snaking down Kopiko Wai Winding River and illuminate images in the volcano’s hidden caves.

Seabreeze goes back to the future

Seabreeze, Rochester, New York, is adding a Super Miami thrill ride from Technical Park this coming May, themed retro-futuristically as The Time Machine. Riders will experience the motion of a 20-passenger gondola, as the hands of time take them full circle and lift them 27ft (8 m) into the air. They will go up, down, and around up to 20 revolutions per minute. In both clockwise and counter clockwise movements. High negative G-forces and quick accelerations will be experienced during the ride, and passengers will also experience the thrill of being lifted momentarily out of their seats as the gondola goes over the top.
