SEASON PREVIEW: NORTH AMERICA


NEW LANDS One of the most anticipated new openings this year is arguably Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World, Florida. Created in collaboration with film- maker James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment, and overseen by Disney Imagineer and Animal Kingdom lead designer Joe Rohde, the new land of course brings to life the fantasy world of Pandora, inspired by Cameron’s epic 3D feature film Avatar. Signature attractions include Avatar Flight of Passage, a flying theatre that will send passengers soarin' above the jungles of Pandora on a “Mountain Banshee”, and Na’vi River Journey, a family-friendly boat ride on which guests will discover floating mountains and bioluminescent rainforests. At Sea World San Diego in California, the new Ocean


Explorer realm promises a handful of new attractions, headed up by Submarine Quest, taking guests on a global expedition of scientific exploration. This three-minute experience, with six- passenger subs from Chance Rides, will apparently enhance riders’ understanding of our fragile ocean ecosystem. Opened at the start of the year, Legoland Florida's new Lego Ninjago World is the latest of several mini themed lands at Legoland parks around the world, anchored by Ninjago: The Ride. This 4D dark ride uses Triotech's Maestro gesture-activated interactive system together with ride vehicles by ART Engineering, blending 3D computer animation with 4D effects.
