SEASON PREVIEW: EUROPE
The original PortAventura theme park is already one of the top 10 in Europe, with over 3.5 million annual guests including many visitors from the UK, Germany and Russia. The new motorsport-themed park is smaller than Ferrari Land Abu Dhabi, but arguably also a little less ostentatious, with a greater emphasis on outdoor attractions. Its inclusion as part of the offering here alongside both PortAventura theme park and Costa Caribe waterpark will give guests another way to enjoy enjoy an adrenaline-filled experience in the Mediterranean heat. Set to open at the end of March, Comics Station
Antwerp is an indoor park based in the Belgian city’s main train station and celebrating the country’s rich animation heritage. Spread over 6,000 sq m and four levels, it will feature around 60 family-friendly activities including a dark ride by Gosetto. Characters including Luky Luke, Jommeke, Urbanus, Bob & Bobette, De Kiekeboes and The Smurfs will be featured as part of the highly interactive facility that sounds worth missing your train for. Over in Poland, the Dutch-backed Holiday Park Kownaty project
L'Extraordinaire Voyage at Futuroscope – Europe’s first flying theatre
on the German border (midway between Berlin and Warsaw) will launch with the opening later this year of Majaland. This indoor park licensed by Studio 100 and dedicated to Maja the bee will adopt a similar format to the company’s Plopsa Indoor parks in Belgium and the Netherlands, with further Studio 100 characters including Vicky the Viking promised as part of phase II in 2020. Ride suppliers are expected to include established Plopsa suppliers including Zierer, Zamperla and various play providers. Plans for the wider Holiday Park Kownaty development also call for an extreme sports park, hotels, a bungalow park, food, drink and shopping facilities. Two rollercoasters, at least one of them Chinese, will feature at
the new Mirnovec Fun Park in Croatia. Located in Biograd na Moru, this relatively modest new park will cover an area of 4.5 hectares (11 acres). Opening is scheduled for June.
