Ferrari Land at PortAventura World


Outlook 2015-2019, new parks are opening this year on the continent, and not just in emerging markets towards the east. Over 10 major new rollercoasters will open this season, as well as a handful of large interactive dark ride projects, virtual reality “remixes” of existing attractions and, finally, Europe, gets its first flying theatre; three of them in fact. Nevertheless, most industry experts and observers would agree; business for theme parks and attractions across the continent remains sluggish and most operators can expect no more than a singe figure percentage increase in spending this season. Those that are not investing in new attractions must sweat their existing assets to the max. Here’s are some of those who are splashing out this season:


Season Preview: EUROPE A


lthough IAAPA did “not expect major new parks to propel the market during the next five years” in Europe according to its Global Theme and Amusement Park


rollercoaster: Red Force, a 112m (367ft) Intamin LSM launch coaster that reaches speeds of up to 180km (111mph) in just five seconds. It will be joined by attractions including twin tower rides (shot and drop) from S&S – Sansei, a virtual F1 Experience, virtual GT Experience, a race track, play area, various family-focused rides from Zamperla, and replicas of Italian landmarks including Basilca San Marco in Venice, the Coliseum in Rome and the home of Enzo Ferrari. Food and drink will be provided in authentic trattoria style. With the opening Ferrari Land, PortAventura World becomes the first non-Disney resort in Europe to boast three theme parks on-site.

NEW PARKS The most hotly-awaited new opening in Europe this season is surely Ferrari Land, the third ‘gate’ at PortAventura World on Spain’s Costa Dorada. Opening on April 7, it promises an adrenaline-fuelled experience for all the family including Europe’s tallest and fastest
