Ideal Commercial manufactures 30,000th Evomax

BPMA calls on NMRO to act over illegal pumps

T I

deal Commercial Boilers, the Brit- ish heating manufacturer, recently celebrated the completion of its 30,000th Evomax commercial con- densing boiler. Introduced in 2011, the Evomax wall hung range, developed and manufactured at Ideal’s Hull site, is the company’s best-selling commercial boiler. It has one of the highest energy efficiencies and largest output ranges on the market, ensuring heating requirements can be carefully matched to maximise building efficiency. Darren Finley, chief commercial

officer at Ideal Commercial Boilers, said: “Ideal Commercial has a 100- year tradition of innovation, and we focus on continuous improvement to meet the evolving needs of specifiers, contractors and installers alike. Sales of Evomax have far surpassed our original estimates; we are very proud that one in five commercial wall hung boilers currently sold in the UK is an Evomax.

“Our milestone reflects years of meticulous design, careful component selection and a focussed manufacturing process to make the Evomax a commercial boiler with proven reliability. Plus, since production began, we’ve introduced frame and header kits that allow you to install up to six boilers in cascade with a combined capacity of up to 600kW, so large applications benefit as well.” The Evomax exceeds UK and

EU environmental legislation and qualifies for maximum BREEAM points due to NOx emissions of less than 40gm/kWh. It’s also listed on the Energy Technology List.

he British Pump Manufacturers’ Association (BPMA) is calling on the National Measurement Reg- ulatory Office (NMRO), in its role as UK Market Surveillance Authority, to take all appropriate action to ensure that illegal pumps are removed from the market and that all future imports are curtailed with immediate effect. However, there continues to be evi- dence of illegal pump imports entering the UK from other countries (particu- larly Asia) that do not meet the strict demands of the EU Energy Related Products Directive (ErP Directive). Last December BPMA representa- tives again met with NMRO executives in London and conveyed members’ frustration that to date no discernible progress has been made. The NMRO confirmed that several ‘suspect’ circu- lator pumps had now been purchased in order to be tested. The results of the testing were initially due to be pub- lished early in 2017 but it now looks more likely to be May 2017.

A key concern raised by the BPMA is that Circulator Pumps were the first to

be regulated under the ErP Directive, with many other and far more compli- cated pumps and pump sets to follow. It is therefore imperative that the cor- rect procedures are put in place now, to ensure effective surveillance across the full breadth of regulated products. The fear is that the UK could become the dumping ground for non-compliant and potentially dangerous pumps. Following this meeting, a full written appraisal was sent to Mark Prisk MP, who had previously been advised of this matter by the BPMA and Grundfos Pumps. As a result, Mark has commu- nicated the importance of this issue directly to Greg Clark MP, Secretary of State, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, whose inter- vention is to be welcomed. The BPMA will shortly be following up on this in the hope that all appropriate parties can put in place the means by which to tackle any breach in these important regulations. It is asking industry mem- bers to contact it with information on any pump product that appears to be in breach of the ErP Directive.

Ingersoll-Rand set to acquire Thermocold Costruzioni

I

ngersoll-Rand plc is to acquire Thermocold Costruzioni Srl, a pri- vately held Italian company that manufactures and distributes HVAC systems and solutions for residen- tial, commercial and industrial build- ings in Europe.

Dave Regnery, president, commer- cial HVAC North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Trane and Thermocold have been innovat- ing new products and serving cus- tomers together for several years. “This announcement is the next step in strengthening our portfolios to take advantage of the large market opportunity in Europe, and expanding distribution of Thermocold tech- nologies to other parts of the world where demand is growing rapidly.” One of Thermocold’s signature

solutions includes the innovative multi-pipe HVAC system for high efficiency, simultaneous heating and cooling. This system recovers energy by shifting use from a separate boiler and chiller to one single, simplified multi-pipe unit that simultaneously delivers hot and chilled water. This system repurposes rejected energy, or uses renewable energy, for heating the facility delivering a more sustainable solution that reduces the amount of investment costs, use of floor space and total operating expenses.

The multi-pipe system further contributes to lower the environmen- tal footprint due to significant lower energy use.

Thermocold operates from one location in Bari, Italy.
