Commercial heating Build in end user controls

Making sure that the end user knows how to use the system is also vital in achieving efficiency and helps with keeping energy use low. The latest control systems offer much more flexibility than simply switching the boiler on and off according to time or temperature. Technology now provides the flexibility to manage when and where the heating system is used, avoiding heating circuits or zones which are temporarily not required, as well as allowing the boiler to modulate effectively. This all contributes to lower emissions and minimises waste – saving money while benefiting the environment. As an example, in a mixed-use development with

a central plant room and boiler installation, controls can be deployed to differentiate the distribution of heat and hot water to different parts of the building. This means that residential apartments, requiring peak heat and hot water in mornings and evenings, can be operated separately from retail units, typically needing most heating during the day. By managing these two sections of the building effectively, fuel use is reduced and boiler efficiency is increased. Controlling the heat output based on the external

temperature is also a good way to maximise efficiency and minimise waste. This can be achieved by using outdoor weather sensors linked to the boiler.

Small steps to big savings

By taking these small and simple steps, it is possible to keep a commercial boiler running cost effectively, meeting its owner’s expectations. Adopting a proactive management and maintenance strategy will ensure your customer’s investment into new boilers will deliver long term cost savings and will keep commercial boilers as efficient as possible.

If bills aren’t going down the system could need looking at to make sure everything is running as intended
