The human side of innovation Thomas’s own story began with a moment of observation: a queue of cars idling outside a school, pumping fumes into the air around the playground. That moment set him off on a mission that would bring together leading scientists, engineers, modellers and manufacturers and ultimately result in a system now protected by patents in several jurisdictions. We’ve worked hand-in-hand ever since, with regular calls involving our teams in the UK and our manufacturing plant in Spain. The unit is being built in real time, shaped by testing and iterative feedback, with nothing too much trouble on either side. It’s rare to fi nd such an open and energising collaboration and it’s been a genuine privilege for our team to contribute to something so meaningful. The fi rst installation in Lewisham is scheduled for late 2025 and will serve as the fi rst real-world testbed, with live monitoring and scientifi c oversight. The plan is that it will mark the start of something far larger: a new class of urban infrastructure designed not just to move people, but to protect them. As conversations continue with councils, government bodies and academic institutions, our role at Carrier remains clear. To
support innovation that aligns with our core values: improving air quality, reducing energy consumption and enhancing lives. In a sector often preoccupied with incremental gains, Roadvent represents a leap. Not just in engineering, but in thinking.
