Daikin Applied
Daikin Applied has extended its range of air handling units (AHUs) with the UK launch of the compact Modular T series. This new product features an advanced triple stage filtration approach to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) in several types of building, at a time of growing concern about this vital health and well-being issue.
The Modular T has been designed to reduce the concentration of potentially harmful airborne pathogens including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and particulate matter (PM) while also helping to reduce CO2
levels. In updated guidance published last year, the
World Health Organisation (WHO) blamed exposure to air pollution for seven million premature deaths a year worldwide and slashed its recommended maximum exposure limits for several pollutants, including PM and nitrogen dioxide (NO2
).
It said even relatively low concentrations of ambient and indoor air pollution were responsible for rising rates of lung cancer, heart disease, and strokes – putting the health impact of pollution on a par with poor diet and smoking. The WHO halved the recommended limit for average annual exposure to PM2.5 from 10 micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m3
for PM10 from 20 to 15 µg/m3
) to five – and lowered the recommended limit .
Daikin’s Modular T AHU filters outside air to remove external pollutants before it is supplied to the building and simultaneously extracts inside air, decreasing the concentration of indoor pollutants using three separate stages of filtration. Available in five different sizes, with an air flow range from 200 m3/h up to more than 4000 m3

SCREWLine4-i (WDAN-iK4 MF) is the new air-cooled multi-function heat pump for outdoor installation, equipped with twin variable speed screw compressors using low GWP R513A refrigerant Modern buildings are increasingly
characterised by simultaneous demand for heating and cooling depending on outside temperature, building construction and usage. Often to meet this need the traditional solution is to provide the heating and cooling capacity through two different generators, a boiler for the hot water production and a liquid chiller for the chilled water one. This classic approach has a low efficiency in applications where
/h, the Daikin Modular T can be used in a wide range of
commercial buildings including schools, offices, gyms, and shops. The units have a very compact footprint – the largest model has a maximum depth of just 890 mm and the smallest is only 550mm deep. In addition, larger models are supplied in sections for easy transportation and handling. Installation is further eased by using ‘plug and play’ connections and the Modular T can also be combined with VRV or ERQ condensing units to provide a complete fresh air solution – a feature which is unique to Daikin Applied.
Units can be supplied either with smart controls or with direct connection to the company’s own communication platform. The range also features an integral mixing damper which helps to optimise energy consumption and reduce running costs.

there is simultaneous demand for cooling and heating, since there is a large amount of energy rejected by the liquid chiller into the environment, could be used as boiler integration or total replacement. The main advantage of the multifunction unit, based on heat pump technology, is that it recovers energy that would otherwise be wasted, increasing the overall efficiency of the system. With just a single unit producing cooling and heating simultaneously and efficiently, it is possible to replace both generators (boiler and chiller), keeping the same comfort and saving energy at the same time. The WDAN-iK4 MF series meets the simultaneous needs of hot and chilled water in four-pipe systems. It is available in Excellence energy version (EXC) which offers high efficiency in all operating modes: SEER up to 5.18 and SCOP up to 4.21. Thanks to the use of R513A refrigerant, with a low GWP (IPCC AR5 = 572), the unit guarantees an environmental impact more than halved compared to traditional R-134a refrigerant (GWP = 1430). The advanced technology, including Inverter dual-rotor screw
compressors, high efficiency EC fans with continuous speed modulation, copper-aluminium coils with hydrophilic treatment, offers a perfect match of the cooling load in any condition, great staging in following the load all year round, high efficiency values, reducing operating costs, reduction in starting current peak. Thanks to the capacity modulation from 100% to 18%, due to the full inverter technology and double refrigerant circuits, the extended operating limits are able to ensure the unit operation all year round, with outdoor temperatures from -10°C to +46°C, with hot water production up to +60°C during summer and chilled water down to -8°C during winter.
