VENTILATION, DUCTWORK AND GRILLES

commissioned, what will building occupants be looking at inside their homes and workplaces? And, more importantly, will they like what they see? Unsurprisingly, once the need for comfort cooling has been addressed, the next one is revealed – how to make AC less ugly. A quick online search brings up a myriad of ways to hide unsightly air conditioning equipment, from placing standalone units in inconspicuous places, to replacing plain ventilation outlets with decorative statement grilles. Most Indoor air conditioning units are far from ugly, but equally they are not known for their aesthetic qualities. With ducted mechanical ventilation systems becoming increasingly common, it is worth considering the appearance of the grilles and diffusers that will be in full view of the occupants.

Not just aesthetics With that in mind, Ventmann has developed a range of 100% seamless diffusers for plasterboard (drywall) installations. They are, in a nutshell, gypsum diffusers designed to be as practical as they are beautiful. There is no form over factor here – with Ventmann

diffusers, they coexist in the same exclusive design. Once installed, all you see is the slot through which the conditioned air flows into the room. We use gypsum as the primary material because it brings convenient and practical benefits. It bonds with the plasterboard that makes up the ceiling or wall, allowing Ventmann diffusers to become an integral part of the overall structure, sharing material properties. For example, the diffusers expand and contract at the same rate as the rest of the ceiling. Temperature fluctuations that could cause cracking with other diffusers and vent covers do not affect Ventmann gypsum diffusers, resulting in excellent durability and a much nicer appearance. Ventmann diffusers are available in a range of shapes including round, square and linear slot diffusers. Stylish and elegant, they can be incorporated into practically any décor or style. And since they can also be sanded and painted, mismatched vent covers are never a problem, as can sometimes be the case when older metal or plastic covers are replaced with new ones. With their minimalist, ultra-modern, aesthetic and their excellent

technical performance, we believe Ventmann diffusers are the ideal solution to the ugly AC problem.

Conclusion It is hard to believe that we have passed the 40°C mark in the UK, yet here we are. While this summer’s heatwave was not entirely unexpected, it has certainly highlighted the need for the construction industry to prepare for evolving climate conditions. In a country where construction has traditionally focused on keeping homes cosy and warm, the soaring temperatures may be what finally convinces many to adopt some form of air conditioning within dwellings, business premises and other buildings. Still, we need to direct our attention

towards how to make aircon a desirable part of modern buildings, and hence also how to make the visible part of an AC, heating or ventilation installation less of an eyesore. It remains to be seen whether the trend for more aesthetic solutions will finally catch on within the HVAC industry and the wider construction industry surrounding it. For us at Ventmann UK, the choice is obvious.
