PARTNER FOCUS

Walter Martin, technical director, Aspen Pumps Group, discusses how putting the engineer at the centre of its product developments has led to the creation of the world’s quietest elbow pump.

T

hey say that necessity is the mother of invention, but when three air conditioning engineers based in Hailsham started Aspen Pumps back in 1992, they invented a product that no

one knew they needed. It was the world’s fi rst peristaltic condensate removal pump for air conditioning systems. It was an instant success because now you could overcome the issue of leaks and water damage from failing pipe runs, avoid unsightly trunking on the walls and have the fl exibility to site the AC unit where you wanted, rather than be limited by the amount of fall available. These engineers went on to develop and launch many more world fi rsts, but whatever they, and then the company’s Research and Development team invented, there was always one caveat: the product had to make the engineer’s life easier. Which is exactly what the mini, elbow, quick-fi t and inaudible range of pumps did. By placing the engineer at the centre of all their developments, Aspen’s popularity grew and, 32 years on, it is now the global leader in the design, manufacture, distribution and sales of condensate removal pumps. This month we’re launching another fi rst: the Silent+ Mini Lime

elbow pump. This is a next generation pump which delivers unmatched performance across the board. It’s the ideal partner for air conditioning systems, especially those installed in commercial environments where the reduction of ambient noise is critical. As the name suggests, this pump is virtually inaudible with a noise level of up to 16 dB(A) at one metre, for context a whisper is 30 dB(A), it sits within the trunking elbow and is compatible with all Aspen’s trunking systems, as well as the majority of competitor trunking systems. It’s also highly energy effi cient as the pump dynamically adapts to its environment, resulting in up to 10 times less energy consumption than its predecessor, and it can be used with the most powerful mini splits on the market. Installation is fast and hassle free too: there’s no

Simple and fast to install – No need for a damper, anti-siphon, buttons or lights. – No need for a Maxi Lime – this pump is a Mini and Maxi all-in-one. – Quick release reservoir.

Fits within all trunking systems – Including our Kwik Fix range which is available in three colours (white, cream, black).

Plug & Play – Backwards compatible. – Perfect for replacement installations. – Replacement pump available, alongside the complete pump and trunking system.

Near-silent operation – As low as 16 dB(A)@1m. – Variable speed and on-demand power. – Perfect for commercial and residential environments.

New pump, fresh packaging – Less packaging for replacement pump. – Improved product labelling means easier identifi cation of model and colour.

need for a damper, buttons or lights; the pump can be commissioned on site; it can be fi tted in a right or left elbow joint and is perfect for replacement installations. In addition, it boasts an impressive fl ow rate of 40 l/h and has a larger tank and head capability than its predecessor. It took three years to develop this technology. Multiple instrumented

fi eld trials were conducted that allowed remote monitoring of pump behaviour in real world deployments. This, in turn, enabled fi ne tuning of the technology, ensuring that the software running on the pump always works to minimise audible noise. And now we have an intelligent elbow pump that is eff ective, reliable, energy effi cient and virtually inaudible. Innovation has been our watchword at Aspen ever since the fi rst peristaltic pump was developed and our dedication to it has delivered in more ways than one. The company has grown from a small, local manufacturer, to a company with over 400 employees worldwide which trades in 100 countries. We’re still based in Hailsham and owe our continued success to the development of advanced, world-beating products that have been designed by engineers for engineers. www.aspenpumps.com
