BREWERIES & CELLARS
50% annual savings. Examples include ambient beer coolers, which utilise outdoor air for cooling leading to even greater energy and cost-saving benefi ts.
Free cooling
Most beer cellars are kept at 10°C, but UK temperatures between October and April often fall below that fi gure. When the outdoor temperature drops sub-8°C, ambient beer coolers uses the cold outdoor air to cool a beer cellar at a fraction of the cost. Sensors detect when the outdoor temperature is low enough, switching off the refrigeration and drawing in cold air from outside at this point. When the temperature rises above 8°C the ambient beer cooler will turn itself off and reverts to the refrigeration cellar cooler system. In a typical installation, an ambient cooler can save over £1,200 a year.

At the time of writing, the festive season is fast approaching; a period when many reach for a perfectly chilled glass of our favourite tipple – hopefully one that’s been cooled to perfection while keep energy costs to a minimum.
Beer cave fi t-out J&E Hall has recently completed a beer
cave fi t out for Premier Stores in Cardiff , comprising of specialist chiller solution, Cellar Plus.
Cellar Plus is a versatile range of chillers, including options for unconventionally shaped rooms (such as L shaped). All Cellar Plus models provide exceptional cooling performance together with accurate temperature control, operating with low GWP refrigerants and capable of longer pipe runs – up to 50m. Delivering temperatures as low as 4°C, the specialist chillers use either R448A or R449A refrigerant. All outdoor units include high quality Copeland scroll compressors, with blue fi n coating on outdoor coils for added protection.
In this particular application, the beer cave also benefi ts from 70mm insulated walls and a double-glazed front, ensuring stock is kept at optimum serving temperature. Research from America, where beer
caves are a more well-established solution for beverage storage, suggests this way of presenting drinks can increase sales by around 35%*, something echoed by Premier Stores owner. They said: “This new equipment is much more cost
eff ective for us rather than having several smaller units running at the same time. It keeps the stock at the perfect serving temperature. We have seen a dramatic increase in our sales of chilled drinks, wines and beers since we have had this beer cave installed.” Craven Cooling Services, which specifi ed and installed the system, said: “From a refrigeration engineers’ perspective, the J&E Hall equipment is a dream to install… we can highly recommend their products... The ease of availability is a defi nite bonus when needing to get the job done. The new units are a cost eff ective, energy effi cient solution.”
