A chilling display


Keeping drinks cold is a challenge for both pubs and retailers, who want to ensure their customers enjoy their favourite tipple at the optimum temperature. Ian Parker, from J&E Hall, looks at the options available and how to balance cooling with the cost of energy.

n the ever-evolving world of the beverage sector, pubs, supermarkets and convenience stores are continuously adapting to consumer


preferences and technological advancements. In the retail sector specifi cally, being able to choose a drink that’s ready to consume immediately can lead to happier customers and increased sales. As a consequence of more discerning shoppers, over the last few years ‘beer caves’ have grown in popularity, providing a superior experience for customers and a good solution for keeping large quantities of beer (and other drinks) cool. Essentially a walk-in fridge, beer caves showcase a variety of chilled products at optimum temperature, while creating a unique and immersive shopping experience. For wine merchants, coolers are available with adjustable temperature settings that cater to the specifi c requirements of diff erent wine varieties. Similarly, craft beer sections may have dedicated

chillers to maintain the distinct fl avours of these beverages – in-store and also in cellars, where specialist cooling solutions maintain temperatures depending on the product.
